For the first week of summer vacation, we hit the ground running.

Monday was the official start of summer vacation. Lots and lots to do. Fence fixing, halter breaking Jaxsenโ€™s giant steers, riding horses, etc. There were 2 hours of school which Kade decided he needed to go to so he could see his gf. He admitted he didn’t even go to his classes, he went to hers. Toni took him in because the other kids refused to waste 2 hours of their life at school. Dad took the boys into football practice and picked them up. They had games on Tuesday and Wednesday and then we were headed to Filer for the Angus Regional show. Anna fixed Kingโ€™s pen again, Toni moved Yo and Yo Chic back to the house to see if that would solve the problem. It did not, so after work I hauled King to my house, he is in with the longhorn heifers and watusi bull, and the mares to mom and dads. We are going to haul some old mares down to circle 6 later. We also kicked Sally and Saul out of the corral out into the pasture, Saul just ran and ran and ran.

Tuesday morning Toni took mom to see grandma. Anna and the boys worked on their steers. Kaine went fishing with his friend Keegan for a little while. Kade clipped his fall heifer. I went to see grandma in the afternoon. Toni and the boys rode with Jara to Royal for a football scrimmage. The wind had started blowing when they left, and it was blowing harder when I went, about 30 minutes behind them, and it was terrible when we all got there. However, the boys played a great game, they played some big schools, like Hanford and Moses Lake. Anna and the men started packing and organizing the trailer while we were gone to leave early on Thursday.

Wednesday morning Jarra texted that she was still digging dirt out of her eyes, I texted my ears too. Toni said people pay good money for that type of sand abrasion at spas. Toni took the boys to the tri-cities. Kade had an orthodontist appointment, then to see grandma and then they had a football scrimmage at 11. Abby, Kade’s gf, came and sat with Toni for the game. Jarra and another friend also were there roasting in the sun. Wind and dirt on Tuesday, hot sun beating down on Wednesday. The boys played Pasco, a 4A school and were on fire. Kade made a td, Kaine was told, as a sophomore, he will be a varsity starter, which he also was lastย  year as a freshman. They had a good game. Toni had forgotten her camera, so maybe they play better with no camera tracking their every move? Dad and Anna took the heifers and steers in to get their travel papers to go to Filer and then went to Bryans to pick up beef.ย

Thursday morning early, we headed to Filer, Idaho for the Angus Regional Show. We needed to check in by 2 and made it in plenty of time. Kacey and Kady had saved us spots by them. We got unloaded and set up and checked in. Ben went and unloaded our bags at the air bnb then we went to Twin Falls for dinner at a Mexican Restaurant that was really good. Jaxsen got to help Toni for chores. He was complaining from the beginning. We had another outside mare come in for Cappy on Wed, so Toni and Jax checked everything, cut some trees, then when they got home they could hear a kitten somewhere. After searching, they found him in the trailer. Toni made Jax take off his shirt and lock her in the trailer, where she proceeded to trap the kitten and get scratched. Jax also requested to be allowed to go to the school and lift weights to get ready for football, so Toni had him load the trailer with hay. Jax did not think it was quite the same thing. Again, lots of complaining. Toni also wanted to start a fencing project while we were gone because the weather was cooler, Jax did not want to do that either. Too bad for him.

Friday we had showmanship in the afternoon. We washed and the kids clipped on their heifers and steers some before the show started. We were after the AORB and Herefords, but the judge went through them pretty fast. The kids did a great job showing and their heifers did well. Back at home Toni had people come look at the minis and sold one of the fillies. Then went to work. While we were gone she took her pick-up into get repaired as it smelled like burning oil. For anyone that doesn’t know, Toni has had one of her pick-ups burn up while her and the boys were feeding hay a few years ago, so she kind of freaks out when there is any burning smell. Luckily it was an easy fix and she had Kade’s pick-up to drive while hers was in the shop. Dad and Kick went and picked hers back up. Toni and Jax also put in more posts on the fenceline.

Saturday was the breeding classes and jackpot steer show. Kaine and Mayhem won their division. Everyone else was first or second in their class. So everyone did great. Then we packed up the trailer and got ready to head home on Sunday. We went to Twin Falls and had dinner again. Back at home Crystal foaled, so we got a really fancy chestnut (maybe gray) filly sired by Leroy. That was good because with Crystal’s pedigree, if she had a colt, it might have been a fight to see if we kept it as a potential stud. But because it is a filly no fight necessary. Some people came down from Spokane to look at the colts and got the grand tour. They couldn’t decide, so had to go home and think on it. Toni and Jax moved six old mares out to circle 6 inย  hopes that they would stay in. Then chores.

Sunday Ben and Anna got up early and fed and watered the heifers and steers then came and picked up the boys and I and we headed for home. We made it home by around 3 and unloaded and assisted chores. The family back home went to Lyon’s Ferry KOA for lunch with Kicker’s parents for fathers day. After we all got back, Kade and Toni rode Gen for the first time since we got him back, and he is fun. Kade also rode Stormy then Toni and Kade went on a ride during the big storm. Stormy is doing really great.

For the first week of summer vacation, we hit the ground running. It seems like we have so many plans for the summer, but we just manage to accomplish work and exhaustion. We are down to one summer fencing project, lots of cattle shows, and just general work. We are still getting up to Spokane running mares back and forth about once every couple of weeks, so still lots of miles on the road. We are really excited to have the kids home for the summer which is our main chance to enjoy them as they grow up. Summer is our favorite.ย

KT Summer Sky

KT Summer Sky
Mare
Sire:ย Doll Docsan, โ€œLeroyโ€
Dam:ย Continental Piper
Date Born:ย 2019
Color: Chestnut
Price:ย $7,500
Location:ย Arlington, WA: Call Jammie about Summer at 425-330-6845
Summer stands 14.3h and is 4 years old. I bought her with intentions as a project horse for me and my daughter. She is broke to ride and has 4 months professional training. Summer needs a consistent firm hand to not let her get away with things. Sheโ€™s super sweet and is the first to come to us in the pasture. I have recently submitted her DNA sample to see if she can be double registered as a paint as well. She is an easy keeper with front shoes. I have trail rode her about 5 times and have crossed water with her. She likes to go out front but will follow. In a group of mares she was content going off on our own! We have also done arena work and starting her on gaming and poles. We continue to do round pen training, changing directions and desensitizing. I.e tarps, whips, fly sprays, etc. As much as I want to see out my goal of training her, I would like to find something ready to go for my daughter and her 4h program. Sheโ€™s only 8 and a green rider herself.
Summer comes from Boulder Creek Quarter Horses and KT RANCH

Fancy Filly by Doll Docsan

KT Queenie Bellini
Filly
Sire: Doll Docsan โ€œLeroyโ€
Dam:  KT Copper Queen Cleo
Date Born: 3/9/23
Color: Black pointed dun
Price: 7,500
There are so many things to say about this black pointed dun filly I do not even know where to start. She is out of one of our favorite mares, Cleo, she is out of one of our favorite studs, Leroy. Mom and Toni are already fighting of who gets her. Not only is Leroy a big loveable marshmallow, he is a stallion with a performance packed pedigree. He was a very smooth ride with tremendous talent, beautiful movement and huge stop. He was quiet and trainable which he passes along to his foals; he consistently produces fantastic foals with looks, color, conformation and brains. Leroy was unshown due to a wire cut injury that took a long time to. Leroy has produced 1 foal that has NRHA earnings. He also has a 3 year old competing in Western Dressage, was 3rd in Canada in July 2016 and has racked up more 1st place finishes since then. He is sired by Dolls Union Jac- ROM, NRHA earnings, and sired foals that have earnings in excess of $310,000.00 in NRHA, as well as earnings in NRCHA, Buckskin Assoc., and the AQHA world show. Leroyโ€™s dam is Docsan Jeany who has produced foals with earnings in excess of $3700.00 and AQHA point earners. Cleo is by Docs Sizzle Bar and her dam was an awesome all-around horse, Copper Queen Robin. Dad roped off of Robin, she was used as a ranch horse, Toni barrel raced off of her and showed her 4H. She was not used as a brood mare until she was in her 20s. Robin was one of our all-time favorite mares. Cleo bowed her tendon as a weanling, but we were able to put some rides on her as a 2-year-old. She has been a super horse to have around, and has really produced some cow eating foals. Her breeding includes Docs Dee Bar, Sizzlin Hot, Gusdusted, Ed Echols, and more.

#MeettheMares KT Pink Cadillac

Pinky is a great mare that Toni showed halter and took to a few NFQHA shows in in hand trail. We then used on the ranch for a few years, next she went to Oaksdale and was ridden on trails, but not used a lot, and then we got her back and started breeding her. She has a great pedigree filled with both running and cow, Coys Bonanza, Sugar Bars, Major King and more. She is one of the great mares we have by Double and the only daughter we have of Porche.

And Summer Vacation has started

On Monday dad took Butte to Reardon and got more grain for the horses. When the grain was being unloaded the hydraulic hose broke on the tractor. Luckily all of the grain was unloaded first. Our little guy Monte got hurt, so we are doctoring him every night. He is really easy to work with, even though he isn’t very old, so it is an easy job. Kaine and Kade had football practice after school, dad picked them up. For some reason Kaine then took his shirt off to do chores, which prompted Kade to do the same thing. Teenage boys are interesting. Jaxsen went to Silverwood with his sixth grade class trip. He had a great time. He rode rides, spent money on a goofy hat, ate junky food and got to miss school. It may have been the best day of his life. Toni fixed fence in Kings pen and got it back up. Neighbor George came over and preg checked a couple of heifers and a cow we had sold. I went and saw grandma.

On Tuesday dad and Toni went to Otis Orchard and took Cammie and Cinder and brought Annie and Oak back. It was a quick, uneventful trip. We were all disappointed that Cammie was open, we had hopes that she was bred to Leroy before he passed away, but no such luck. The Goodbye Blues is a stud up at Allies that we have bought 2 breedings for to get these late mares bred, at least we hope! Then they took the Wilson into Othello to get the tie bar welded on. Kingโ€™s pen was out again, the fence is not down and is hot. Damn those horses for not being afraid of flags. Dad brought the boys home from football practice. Kaine and Kade loaded up some hay on the flatbed trailer and hauled it down to mom and dads.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  More football practice, chores and fence fixing on Wednesday. Wednesday afternoon we went to Dick Mooreโ€™s funeral in Kahlotus. The Moores have been long time family friends, before my lifetime ever began. Dick and his wife Melette used to play cards with Grandma and Grandpa and were two of our grandparents very best friends. Melette passed away about 6 months ago and now Dick. The service was very well attended. We were glad to be part of the celebration of Dick’s life. We saw lots of friends, ate a wonderful meal catered by Mike Corrales, and tried to support the family. Dad was not able to pick up the boys, we thought they were getting a ride home with their friend Kelten, but he was not at practice so they rode the bus. We were tracking them on our phone to see where they were on the way home, and it showed we were right behind them, but Keltenโ€™s pickup was not in front of us. The bus stopped at mom and dads and guess what, two boys got off.ย  We then proceeded to do chores, get horses in, etc. The normal.

Happy Birthday mom. For momโ€™s birthday Toni and mom went to see grandma. Then they went to Red Lobster for coconut shrimp and the Euro bakery for cannoli. Toni also bought a cake for the birthday party on Sunday, a spartika cake with lots of layers and whip crรจme and goodness. Mom’s back had been hurting, but luckily it was a bit better for her birthday. We took her a couple of presents even though we weren’t celebrating until Sunday. Mom likes her presents, we all do.

Friday was the kids last day of school, except Kade who was going to go on the actual 2 hr last day to see his girlfriend. We all found that amusing. However, when you are not old enough to drive you have to do what you can. The kids had practice, fed steers, etc. Jaxsen came home with 12 awards that his class had voted on- things like most likely to be a lawyer, most likely to be a scientist, most likely to become a famous football player, best vocabulary, things like that. It was pretty amusing. He said one of the girls got more awards than he did. But not a competition or anything. Othello Welding called and our tie bar is in the Wilson, so pretty excited about that. We have been working on getting the tie bar for a while. It was more complicated that we expected to get it and get it installed, but Luft Trailer Sales in E-burg really helped, got it ordered and Shawn with Othello Welding is amazing and got it installed. Toni told Shawn to make sure the tie bar is tough and installed right and he took her seriously based upon the amount of welding and brackets that are up.

On Saturday Willy came and got the 4 heifers and the cow and calf. The kids got all their heifers and steers washed in the morning. Kadeโ€™s girlfriend Abby and Annaโ€™s boyfriend Lane came out in the afternoon, so we spend the afternoon building fence since we had so many hands. We got a lot done. Then we did chores, Abby had not ridden a horse so Toni had her get on Gracie, then later her and Kade rode Slick. She got to feed hay, move water, etc. Lots of fun things.ย  But things that if you want to date a ranch kid, you had better get used to. Lane is a ranch kid, so he is used to our version of โ€œfun.โ€ย  Mom wanted Libby, her pet cow (picture a 1700 lb black Angus beautiful cow) moved in with Dude so she had more shade from the hot sun.ย  I picked up a piece of baling twine, made a halter, and we led her out of the big pasture over to Dude’s pen. A baling twine halter on a fat cow that wants to graze as you walk isn’t a great way to move. Toni had to walk behind her and twist her tail quite a bit. Dude came over to see her but stopped about 15 feet away and ignored her after that. A big cow is not of much interest to a stud that is probably outweighed by a good 500 lbs.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  On Sunday we had mom and Erinaโ€™s birthday party. Ben made bacon wrapped shrimp, roast, brisket and Dutch oven potatoes. Toni made rolls, salad a cheese tray and some infused vodka drink. I cooked a pie mom had made and was in the freezer. We all had a great time. After everyone left Anna, Kaine and I went for a ride. Anna rode her green broke horse Jag, who did great. Then we went down and did chores.ย

I went out and checked Gunner’s pen on Saturday morning. We try to get out there and check all of the pen’s, just to make sure everything is ok. What a view I had. We all joke about who owns which stud, whose stud is better, normal family banter.ย  Gunner is my stud. Gunner has the mares we knew were open, or the mares that were not crรจme based with the oldest foals. Gunner gets his mares and there are no mares coming in or going out, that is what he gets. So that pen has some Gunner foals, a Tank filly, a couple of Jackpot foals. It is impossible to pick a favorite.ย  What a fantastic group of foals. Then I went to the Sagebug pen. Same thing, wow. But they are not better than the Tank pen, or the King pen, or the Dude pen. These foals really look outstanding. You can go from pen to pen and just know that the quality across the board is outstanding. We have some weekends open before we head to Jr. Nationals if anyone wants to come out and take the tour to see these foals. It is worth the drive.
