Some foals arrive with a lot to live up to. KT Masked Mirage arrived April 30, 2024, wearing a flashy bay splash coat and acting like she knew we’d been waiting for her. To be fair, we had.

Mirage is by Masked Gun and out of Lonesome Jaebargina “Gina,” a mare who came to us from Iowa and quickly figured out that ranch life includes a generous amount of attention. Gina is sweet, loves people, and has a résumé to go with that good disposition: she is an AQHA point earner, NRHA money earner, ROM earner in Ranch Riding, and four-time world qualifier. She makes the rest of us look a little underqualified on Mondays.

Gina’s sire, Lonesome Royalty, earned his ROM in Working Cow Horse and is by Lonesome Lynx. Her dam, Do Right Dew, brings in Docs Jack Sprat and Freckles Playboy.

Mirage’s sire, Masked Gun, has more than $90,000 in lifetime earnings. His accomplishments include finalist spots at the NRHA Futurity Open, NRHA Derby Open, TRFAM Shootout, and AQHA Congress Futurity Open, along with NRHA Derby Open Ancillary Reserve Champion honors.

We waited a long time for this cross, and Mirage gave us exactly the kind of filly we were hoping for: eye-catching, well bred, and backed by horses that have proven themselves in the show pen. The splash was just her way of making sure nobody overlooked her.

Some names just fit. Dad picked “Grande” before this filly was born, and she came out looking half grown. She has kept right on developing into a big, powerful bay filly with the bone, shape and substance we love to see in a ranch horse prospect.

KT Hot Grande Mocha was born April 3, 2025. She is by KT HotTimein Cowtown “Tank” and out of KT Mocha Fudsey Lena “Mocha.” We retained too many fillies last year, which is the only reason we decided to offer her for sale. This is a hard one to put on the market.

Tank brings a strong mix of reining and cow-horse bloodlines. His sire, KR Gun Powder, was the 2016 APHA Senior Reining World Champion and earned nearly $13,000 in NRHA competition in just nine shows. KR Gun Powder is by Colonels Smoking Gun and out of A Bueno Poco Dunit. Tank’s dam, KT Cow Cuttin Hottie, is by Cow Cuttin Colonel, whose accomplishments include an NRCHA Superior Cow Horse award and AQHA Open and Amateur Performance ROMs.

On the bottom side, Grande is out of Mocha, one of our favorite mares and a consistent producer of tremendous foals. Her pedigree carries Smart Little Lena, Docs Oak, Tuff Continental, Jackie Bee, Imperial Dixie, Thirsty Blue Boy, Coy’s Bonanza, Wimpy, Skipper W and Little Joe the Wrangler. If you follow our horses, you may know another Mocha daughter: Anna’s riding horse, Jojo.

Grande has the size and substance to be a serious ranch horse prospect, with performance bloodlines that give her plenty of options beyond the ranch. She is an eye-catching filly we would be happy to keep. We simply kept more fillies than we planned, and Grande is available while we’re still willing to let her go!

It’s shaping up to be a full one around here. Cousins Linda and Patricia are up from California for a few days, and we’re putting them to work — celebrating three birthdays at once, since Kade, Dad, and Ben all share this stretch of the calendar. Three cakes, three rounds of “happy birthday,” and probably three arguments about whose gets cut first.

On top of that, we’ve got kids coming out to pick up steers, a few horses getting picked up, it’s going to be a full house and an even fuller schedule.
