Loved hearing the Life is too short to ride an ugly horse quote on Yellowstone this week. Of course we agree with that!

Happy Happy birthday Anna. Marlo went up to Moscow on Monday and had lunch with the birthday girl. It is a good thing we got the cows worked, they started calving. We had one over the weekend, and 4 on Monday. The cold wind also came on Monday and it has definitely started to feel like fall/winter. The weather has been pretty good until Monday. Kaine, Marlo and Ben did chores. Dad and mom took Skip to the Dr. Yes, Uncle Skip is still living with our parents. We wish we could say he was getting better or improving, but we can’t say that.

Happy Happy Birthday Toni. Tuesday I left early to go to Othello to get cupcakes for the all staff meeting at work. We had a great staff meeting and I took cupcakes home for mom, dad, Skip and Marlo. Marlo and Kaine did chores and Marlo filled us in on her going to Moscow to have lunch with Anna.  She did brave bad weather to make Anna’s day special.  Mom stayed with Grandma on Tuesday.

On Wednesday the Meachams flew home from vacation, it took all day, it was around midnight when they got home. Kaine did chores on his own, Marlo headed to her next house-sitting appointment. Kaine has been going to school early to do weight lifting with the football team, if he wants to try out for team captain next year he has to go in early. It takes a bit to get him going in the morning, and Lynn is not happy with her sleep-in buddy not sleeping in. Lynn is the mini aussie.

Thursday everyone was back at school, work, etc. Kaine asked if he could go snow boarding with his friends on Saturday since Kade was back to do chores. I said who is the adult, Jay is, not my cousin, his friend Danny’s brother. I said Jay is technically an adult and so was adultish. So I checked with Jade to see if Max was going and Josh said that Jay is very responsible. So we will see if he goes a second time. Toni went down and did chores. We had left two colts, Cowy and Whitty, in the roundpen so she messed with them a little bit. Thursday we also had a harvest date for four of the steers but it was canceled after we had the steers in. Toni went down to let them out and lost a shoe in the mud. It has gotten really muddy since she left. I don’t know that she was happy to be back, but we have work to do. Kade got home and helped with chores.

On Friday Toni went down in the morning and got Hitter in, that is the first youth colt. She had to get him in out of the weanling pen, sort him out, then get him haltered. Makayla, our first youth kid, got to the house about 10:30. Hitter was great, loaded like a champ, and due to weather didn’t stay long before they headed back home. Hitter has been one of our favorite colts this year, I mean they all are, but Hitter has been great and we are excited to see how Makayla does with him. He is a really fancy red dun colt with a good mind, so hopefully she will do well! Then about 1:30 Chad showed up to start trimming. Toni was wearing uninsulated boots so I guess her feet got colt. They first trimmed Breezy. Breezy was out in the winter pasture but somehow had gotten hurt, when we brought her home she fell down in the trailer and almost smashed me when we were getting her out. We have been really trying to baby her along and monitor her. When Chad was out, we realized that she may have hurt her pelvis when she fell. Breezy is doing way better, but things take time. She is in a good condition at this point and in a pen next to the house so easy to watch. After that, Gina got a trim, then they took off Copper’s plastic shoe. Copper has improved so tremendously that we are hopeful for a good recovery. Toni posted a tiktok video on the shoe removal which we also have on the KT Ranch tiktok. It was mostly just getting the epoxy off because Chad did such a good job putting the epoxy on that the shoe was on there really well. Copper then had the full trim. Holly and Gucci also got trimmed up. Marlo rolled in  to help do chores and had dinner with Toni. I went and stayed with Grandma on Friday night, she slept a lot better then she has been.

On Saturday we had our November birthday party for Terry, Toni and Anna. Ben made brisket and potatoes, Marlo made a pumpkin cake and Erina made gluten free pumpkin cake. Kade was sick so he did not get to come and Kaine was snow boarding. We still had a really good little family gathering. The food was amazing, everyone was appreciative of their gifts. The dogs loved having all the people over. After that we did chores. Later that night we found out that Anna was one of the 2024 mentors of the year with the 509 Show Circuit and Kade had show heifer of the year with Queen! Queen is a heifer that we raised so we are really proud and excited of both of these kids. Kade had nominated Anna so that award was a surprise to us, and a good one!

On Sunday Kade rode Electra and ponied Pony out in the corn stalks getting Pony exposed to corn stalks hitting her legs and birds flying up. We got most of the corral dewormed, so that takes care of most of the horses at Mom’s. Toni and I went to Omak for Craig Verjaska’s funeral. It was a long snowy drive, but the turn out to send Craig off was a great one. The family should be very proud of the support and memories of Craig.  Ben, Anna and Kaine built fence around the corn field and got the cows turned out and the calves tagged. Then the crew took bales down to Mom’s for the horses just like every Sunday. We feel like we didn’t get as much done as normal, but winter activities seem to take longer.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! Read to see what it is!!

Monday was Veterans Day. Happy Veterans Day from our business to you. Today, we remember and honor all who have served or are actively serving. Thank you, veterans! We are lucky to have some very amazing people in our family that have had the distinction of protecting this Country, and we thank them as well as everyone else out there.

On Monday Kade, Kaine and I finished working the calves. Kade rode Jag around. Jag is a full sister to Electra that we call “Pony” because she is a small dynamo. She is sixish and probably 14.2 hands and broad. He is hoping to make her into a heal horse. We moved the pellets into the barn and then went and did chores. We worked on the three colts that are in, Cowy, Whitty and Stoker, all three were awesome. We have not had to use the donkeys in two weeks now. However, we have some big ones coming up that are definitely going to need the donkeys.

On Tuesday Toni loaded out Bee A Bug, and she headed to her new home. She loaded like a champ is what Toni said. Bee a Bug went to a repeat buyer which is always really fun for us. We love it when people love the foals so much they need more than one. Toni worked on the three colts again, then turned Stoker out. She walked out into the weaned foal pen and grabbed Colada out of the middle. Colada has been awesome to deal with and has taken almost everything in stride. Once Colada was caught, she had Dad come out and lead her around as Colada will be loaded out during the week while we are all gone. Colada got put back in since she is headed to her new home soon. Jaxsen was home late due to basketball practice.

Wednesday we woke up to rain. Which is good, I mean, it does not feel good when you are halter breaking, but it is good for the pastures and farm ground around. The Tonis headed to a vacation for a few days Wednesday morning. Kaine got up early to go to school, he was going to an expo he forgot to tell us about. He did not know a lot about where he was going, but he was going with Mr Dansie, I guess that is good enough?? But then he did not end up going anyway.

Thursday Colada was supposed to leave about noon, but Dean showed up at 10:30. Mom decided, even though she had never done anything with Colada, that she would load her. She told Dad and Dean to stay out of her way and loaded Colada like the boss she is. Colada got to her new home without incident. Other than that, it was a typical day, chores, school, work, etc. I stayed with grandma Thursday night. She is still not sleeping.

On Friday Dad and Kaine with to Pomeroy to get the Spokane steers form John Dixon, they are both really nice steers. Ben and I did some cleanup work. Then Kaine, Marlo and I did chores. Anna and Lane got home Friday night. Marlo and I went to Othello and got Checos for dinner.

On Saturday Marlo, Lane, Anna, Kaine, Ben and I worked the cows, we got through them pretty fast considering we were shipping out two bulls and sold some meat as well. There were probably some good stories in the day, but I can’t think of any. The cows all look really good. No one died, so it was all-in-all a good day. Then we did chores.

On Sunday Sam and Erin brought Aubrey and Logan out to get their two clubby heifers, Phoebe and Monica. Then we got Steve’s fat steers in and weighed them and left them in for Steve. Anna and Lane left early since it was supposed to be snowing in Moscow. Marlo, Kaine and I did the horse chores, then Ben and Kaine did the cattle chores, like we had been doing all week. Marlo and I used the new dump trailer to feed a grass straw bale to the weaned pen. We also let Copper out in the big corral where she jumped, bucked, and kicked and showed us that even though she was seriously injured back in August, that she is a survivor.  Again, on the Copper front, we could not have done it without a team like the team we have.  Our vet team, our farrier team, our home team. Chad and Katie coming up with the plastic shoe for that injured leg has made a world of difference.
