Another busy week gone.

On Monday Kade had a game, but was just there for moral support due to his shoulder. Kade went to the chiro early Monday and got his shoulder popped back in again, but that didn’t fix the bigger issue, so more doctors for Kade. Toni had court and a meeting in Ritzville and ate lunch with some other attorneys. The “O” line, the line Kaine is on, were the players of the week on the football team, so they got their picture on facebook and some recognition for their hard work on and off the field. The football team is expected to be their best at home, at school, and on the field. Their coach is very positive yet firm about his standards.  Kaine and Kade have both really enjoyed being involved with the football program. Kaine decided after practice he wanted to ride Red, the 2-year-old colt, however, he did not bring boots, only his hey dudes. Not really getting on a colt kind of foot apparel.  So he just lunged him, or Red lunged Kaine, we are unsure which. Red has a pretty good forehand pivot. Toni had to school Kaine on lunging. The good news is that Kaine can learn.

On Tuesday the blue devil came back from Tinas, Tina has her pretty fat, I turned her out in the circle and she ran around. Kade had another doctor’s appointment and a second x-ray. Jaxsen had a football game Tuesday, he played the entire game and they won, good job Jaxsen. On Toni’s way in to the game Hendricks Rd was flooded, so she called the DOT, Franklin County Public Words, the Irrigation District, Ben and Kicker, so there was a whole group of people out working on the issue. It appears as if the beaver dam broke and the culvert under the road was not big enough to accommodate that much water, so it ran over. Luckily the water level reduced quickly and there were no accidents. The road was covered in water on a corner, so not a good situation. Morgan and Tel headed to Wyoming to pick up some steers we bought back East and in the more easterly mid-states. She lives in Wyoming, so headed to a different part of Wyoming I should say. Kade decided that just because his shoulder hurt didn’t mean he couldn’t ride, so he rode at sundown bareback with a halter. First time he has ridden his horse bareback and without a bridle, but she did fine.

Wednesday morning we had rain. Morgan met the semi and got the steers and hauled them back to her place. They are all gentle. Morgan was pretty nervous because the steers were really crammed into the hauler’s trailer, but they came off the trailer fine and went right to water and a big bale. She says we bought some good steers.  The alfalfa got swathed. The kids did chores, Kade had Toni to help him feed while he drove the 4-wheeler since he isn’t supposed to do anything with his shoulder and he is in a sling, and life was pretty normal. We had plans to take horses into Sheena on Thursday so Toni took her baling twine halter out and caught Butterscotch to bring her into the corral. I asked why she didn’t get a normal halter but she didn’t really respond. I mean we do need to pick strings up, so that does kill two birds with one stone.

On Thursday Toni took two mini mares, one gelding and two mares into Sheena. The mini fillies are going to Montana at the end of the month and the gelding and mares were a little thin so thought maybe they needed their teeth done. The big horses were fine from what I heard and the minis were a pain in the butt and Toni hates all minis. However, she claims two of the mares, so I do not know how that makes much sense??  I went to Grand Coulee for a work meeting on Thursday. The meeting started at 8, so we had to leave early. I was home by midafternoon, so went and got some videos of the fillies out front. On Thursday the doctor called and said Kade does have to go to the Ortho because his shoulder was dislocated twice. Toni stayed with grandma Thursday night.

Happy 50th anniversary mom and dad. On Friday mom went and stayed with grandma. I did work, so caught up on a bunch of book work and then put up some poles in the corral that had been knocked down. Kaine had a football game Friday night, so Marlo and I did chores and then went and watched the game. Toni went and picked mom and got Chinese food for everyone at Mei-Lings. Dad got home from work in time for mom and dad to come and watch the game as well.  The Meachams had Kade’s birthday dinner since they were going to be gone on Saturday. Kade wanted to ride so he had his horse caught and Gen caught for Toni when she got home so they could go ride.

On Saturday the Mechams headed to John Day for a good friends daughter’s wedding. Since it was an overnight excursion, we all could not go, someone has to stay and feed, and since Ben had to work we stayed and Meachams went. It was Kade’s birthday, he turned 15, so he got to drive a little with his permit. We did not get to have his party this weekend since they were gone. Everyone had a good time at the wedding. We had someone stop by in the morning to look at the pickup rack we have for sale, but the legs are for a GMC, so it does not fit on a FORD. Anna worked on her show animals. Kaine caught his new projects. We had someone show up at 3 to pick up their show steer. They bought a nice Angus steer that is for an April show. They had named him Diesel and Anna had been halter breaking him. He is a really nice first year steer, really calm and should be an easy feeder. Kaine and I did chores and got the foal pen ready for weaning. It was my night to stay with grandma, so I had to hurry to make it over. Grandma and I had a good time.

On Sunday Ben, Anna and Kaine had started working the weaned calves before I got home. So we did that all day. We had some friends come out and look at Nugget to see if he would work for their daughter. They wanted something with a few more buttons, and Nugget has just been a ranch horse, but it was a nice visit. Meachams got home early afternoon, so then we weaned Coffee and Juju. First foals are officially weaned! We also got video of Yo Chic for someone looking. Yo Chic is a pretty cool filly. Really though we like them all. I know, shocking.

We have been working on getting steers bought for the kids for the 2024 show season. Also looking at heifers for the 2024 show season. We are stoked that the price of cattle is so high, except when we are trying to buy. The price of good horses has also remained high. We have had a few stallion prospects picked out and they have just gone outside of our budget. Which just means it isn’t meant to be. We need a new stallion that isn’t related to what we have, but we are pretty picky. We do have an HZ black colt out in the field that isn’t related to very many of the mares, so we are excited to see how he does when he is weaned. The best stallion finds are the ones you already own!
