Captains Double Coy, “Double”

This has been hard to write for us, even though it was a long time coming it does not make it easier. We had to put Captains Double Coy, “Double,” down on June 25^th. Due to his age, he had been in a gradual decline on condition for a few years. We stopped using him as a stallion and began treating him like a pet, which he wasn’t happy with, but he accepted. He got three meals a day, had a protein block and hay in front of him at all times but he was at the point that he was no longer in comfort.

Double was a great stallion, loved by many. We have a son of his and a grandson, and his legend will live on. We all miss his charming personality and rugged good looks. We were just talking the other day about how when we took some poles into his pen in the gooseneck he jumped in through the man door to see what we were doing. He always needed to be the center of attention, helping you move the water, pull weeds, spray, following you as you sled down the hill. And do not worry, it did not matter where you went, he was right behind you. The last few years he had had own pen and mom and Sammy (the German Shepard) walked down every day to feed him breakfast and lunch, Jaxsen fed him dinner. We all continued to love and care for him to the end.

KT OneShadie Captain is out of A Little Shadie Chic, “Shadie,” and by Captains Double Coy, “Double.” Shadie is a dark palomino mare that has been shown on the reining circuit, specifically NRHA taking home the 2006 Reserve Regional Experience Reining Region One. This mare continued her show career earning multiple points. Shadie continued to take young people to the show ring until becoming a broodmare. Shadie is a daughter of Comandalena who has earned over $143,000.00 and 260.5 points. On the bottom side Shadie is a granddaughter of A Little Shady Jac, earner of $17,715.86 in NRHA and AQHA points. Doc Tom Tucker, Hollywood Jac 86, Fritz Command, and Smart Little Lena are on Shadie’s papers. Shadie is 5 panel neg. Double is an outstanding stallion that really puts his stamp on his foals. His foals are really easy to break and are really cowy. Double was professionally trained and then used on the ranch. He shows cow ability, but rides like a gelding. He is a fun horse to have around and an easy horse to get along with. We are currently using daughters of Double on the ranch, have shown some of his foals, and have been very impressed with their easy nature, but ability to work cattle. We have also sold foals out of Double for roping and barrel horses. Double tends to throw a huge hipped foal, with lots of instant speed when needed. Perfect for performance and ranch work. Yo’s sire, KT Jackpot City, is out of Lenas Abbie N Charge and is by City Smarts. “Abbie” is a daughter of Smart Like Lena with Mr. Charge Bar on the bottom side. Smart Like Lena is a son of Smart Little Lena and has lifetime earnings of over $89,000.00 a ROM in cutting, and has sired offspring earning over $100,000 in NCHA money. Mr. Charge Bar was not only a racehorse, but he also was an NCHA money earner, had 33 AQHA performance points, 11 halter points, and an SI of 75. City Smarts is by An Educated Guess, 385 reining points, and the highest point earning son of Smart Chic Olena. City has a full brother that is a reiner and priced at $13,000. This is a pretty moving filly with tons of ability.

Captains Double Coy, “Double,” is claimed by dad and Anna. He is currently our senior stallion, as in he is a senior, and Jaxsen feeds him senior every night. Double has a strong personality, he has not sense of personal space, and is nosey and wants to know what you are doing and he LOVES to be hugged. LOL. He never wanted a blanket until the last few years, he gets cold now and wants his blanket. He is 85% NFQHA and a grandson of Major Bonanza, Coys Bonanza and Alotta King. His foals are really easy to break and are really cowy, some of our favorite mares are by him, Izzy, Ellie and Stormy. We were really happy to get the opportunity to buy Double from Vance and Carol Burke from the Soap Lake area. Double was professionally trained and has been used on the ranch. He shows cow ability, but rides like a gelding.
