From all of us at KT Ranch — thank you to the brave men and women who served and especially to those who gave all.

Today we pause to remember and honor the men and women who gave everything for this country and the freedoms we enjoy every day.

From early mornings horseback to long days in the pasture, we’re grateful for the opportunity to live this way of life — and we know that freedom didn’t come without sacrifice.

As we spend time with family, gather at brandings, rodeos, cattle shows or just being around the ranch this weekend, we remember those who never made it home and the families who carry that sacrifice with them every day.

From all of us at KT Ranch — thank you to the brave men and women who served and especially to those who gave all.

Color: Brown
Price: $5,000

Sharp Bay Colt – Cow Sense, Athleticism & Proven Performance Bloodlines

KT Captain Starlight is a sharp, athletic brown colt with the pedigree, mind, and natural ability to excel in the performance arena or on the ranch. Sired by Midnight Kat DR (“MC”) and out of KT Copper Isabelle (“Izzy”), this colt blends elite reining and cutting blood with real-world ranch versatility — and he’s 83% NFQHA.

MC is by Starlight Midnight, an NRHA money-earner and AQHA World Show qualifier in Junior Heeling with over 60 AQHA points and a Register of Merit. Starlight Midnight is a son of the legendary Grays Starlight, whose offspring have earned over $10 million and helped establish him as one of the leading sires in NRHA, NRCHA, and NCHA history.

On the dam side, MC traces to serious cowhorse power through Slick As A Cat DR, a daughter of Magneticat — known for bone, size, stop, and exceptional cow sense. Magneticat is by the legendary Metallic Cat, and the bottom side adds even more strength through Smooth As A Cat breeding.

Izzy has proven herself both in and out of the arena. Before an injury ended her show career, she competed in NFQHA events and later spent years working cattle on the ranch. She’s one of our favorite mares — naturally cowy, quick-footed, smart, and always watching what’s going on around her.

Her foals consistently inherit her intelligence, trainability, athleticism, and strong conformation. They’re level-headed, easy to work with, and naturally talented.

KT Captain Starlight is the kind that’s built to stop, turn, think, and handle a job. Whether your goal is reining, ranch versatility, cowhorse, roping, or a dependable ranch partner, this colt has the pedigree and ability to go in that direction.

Finally Friday

We’re headed to the Desert Storm Cattle Show in Hermiston this weekend and hope to see a lot of you there on Saturday! Looking forward to a good show, good cattle, and catching up with friends along the way.

To everyone else spending the weekend branding, rodeoing, boating, hauling, irrigating, relaxing, or just trying to keep up with ranch life — stay safe and enjoy the weekend.

Summer weekends are starting to fill up fast around here

Thursday Thoughts

Spring ranch life keeps rolling around here. We’re getting ready to head to the Desert Storm, a cattle show in Hermiston, this weekend. We still need to get the cows worked. The last few bulls are waiting on buyers to be ready. We do have one Hereford bull left if anyone is looking for a bull.

Last week was also FFA State Convention, and we’re pretty proud of our crew. Jaxsen competed on the Freshman Food Processing and Meats Evaluation teams, where they placed 1st and 4th in the state. Kade was the State Winner in Cooperative Quiz and Interview and earned an $800 scholarship, and Kaine received his State Degree. A lot of hard work went into those accomplishments, and it’s fun seeing it pay off.

Kaine also gave his senior presentation this week. Him, Cyson, and Maxx painted the lines for CBJLS and did a great job presenting their project. All three boys are also in Mr. Dansie’s CDL class, and it meant a lot that he came down to watch them give their presentation.

Toni and Dad also made a trip to pick up mares from Allie’s, and we got some exciting news while they were there — both Sally and Twist are confirmed in foal!

Sally is bred to Heracles, a 2022 AQHA palomino stallion owned by Jake Bennett. He’s sired by leading barrel racing sire Epic Leader and out of UX Kimmitted ta Fame. Standing in Soap Lake, Washington, Heracles is being campaigned as a top-tier barrel prospect, and we’re excited to see what that cross brings.

It’s always fun looking ahead to next year’s foals while juggling everything else ranch life throws at us

Man Crush Monday: Captains Double Coy, “Double”

Some stallions leave a mark on your program.
Some leave a mark on your family.
Double did both.

“Double” was the kind of horse that made life easy. He had the ability, the mind, and the kind of disposition that made everyone love him. Professionally trained and used on the ranch, Double showed all the cow and athletic ability you could ask for — but rode around with the easy, quiet feel of a gelding.

We were incredibly fortunate to purchase him from Vance and Carol Burke from the Soap Lake area, and he became a huge part of our breeding program for years.

Double consistently stamped his foals:
✔ Big hip
✔ Natural athletic ability
✔ Instant speed when needed
✔ Easy to start
✔ Cowy and trainable minds

His foals have gone on to ranch homes, roping homes, barrel racing homes, and performance programs. Around our place, we still use several of his daughters on the ranch today, and they continue to prove exactly why we thought so highly of him.

More than anything though, Double passed down his personality. He was kind, easy to get along with, and the type of horse people naturally gravitated toward. Once you had a “Double baby,” it usually meant you wanted another one.

We had to say goodbye to Double in June of 2023 due to failing health, and there’s no doubt he left a hole around here. But we still see pieces of him every day in his offspring, and that legacy continues to carry on through the horses he left behind.

The good ones never really leave us.
