Finally Friday!

It’s finally Friday, and we’re looking forward to another busy weekend working with the animals and making progress around the ranch.

Kaine and Maxx are headed up to Skip’s to pick up the vehicles, while Kade will be spending plenty of time riding and working with his steers and heifers. Anna is getting her pairs gathered up to take to Sagebrush and sorting through the calves she’ll be halter breaking and offering for sale.

As always, there will be plenty of chores, feeding, checking livestock, and making sure everything is ready for the week ahead. Around here, weekends aren’t about slowing down—they’re about getting caught up and spending time doing what we enjoy most.

There’s something rewarding about seeing young livestock develop, watching cattle settle into new pastures, and putting in the work that helps prepare them for their future. Every day may not be easy, but it’s a life we’re thankful for.

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend, whether you’re headed to a show, branding, haying, or simply spending time with family and friends.

Here’s to a productive weekend and making the most of these summer days!

Thursday Thoughts

We had another great week here at the ranch, and it was one of those weeks where everyone seemed to be headed in a different direction!

Anna and Kade did a fantastic job at Regionals in Filer. Samantha, Kade’s Simmental heifer, showed great all week and was a real trooper. Anna’s fall heifer, Baby from Nowatzke, was Reserve Champion in her division, her bred-and-owned heifer was Champion in her division, Kade’s DLX heifer won her class, and Anna’s Seldom Rest heifer placed 4th in her class. We’re proud of all the hard work these kids put into their cattle.

Jaxsen spent the week at football camp and had a great time. He was back home on Friday to help with chores, which was much appreciated.

Back at the ranch, Mom and I spent the week doctoring Cal’s leg. Mom, Dad, and I handled the horse chores while the men took care of the cattle chores. Ben kept busy working on circles and helping where needed.

Kaine spent the entire week in Yakima practicing for the East vs. West State Football Game. On Saturday, Mom, Dad, Ben, Jaxsen, Terry, Erina, JayCee, and I made the trip to watch. The game was awesome—although it was definitely HOT! Kaine and Max, the two boys representing Connell, had a great experience and made some memories they’ll never forget.

After the game, we headed home Saturday night and got chores done before calling it a day. Toni, Anna, and Kade wrapped up showing and made it home around 11 that night.

Sunday was spent celebrating the fathers in our lives. We’re thankful for the dads, grandpas, and father figures who teach us the value of hard work, integrity, and perseverance every day.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!

As always, thank you for following along with our ranch adventures. We hope everyone has a great week ahead!

Cappy is backed by generations of proven performers. His dam, A Little Shadie Chic (“Shadie”), had a successful NRHA career including a 2006 Reserve Regional Experience Championship in Region One, AQHA points, and later became the kind of mare trusted to carry young riders in the show pen.

The pedigree behind her is stacked:
✨ Comandalena — over $143,000 earned and 260.5 AQHA points

On the top side, Captains Double Coy (“Double”) was the kind of stallion we still talk about often around here. He consistently stamped his foals with cow, brains, athleticism, and easy-going dispositions. We still use several of his daughters on the ranch today, and Kade ropes off a couple of them regularly.

On the bottom side, Peanut adds foundation strength and personality. She’s a sweet-natured dunalino mare by KT Heza Pana Dude, carrying lines that trace back to Zinks Major Kid, Pana Dude, Major Bonanza, Skipper W, and Skipster.

This colt is bred to go in just about any direction:
✔ Ranch horse
✔ Rope horse
✔ Reining prospect

Thursday Thoughts

Wrapped up a great week at the Spokane Jr Show and now we’re loading up and heading to Ellensburg for another Jr Angus show this weekend — no slowing down around here.

The Spokane Jr Show was a good one. Kade had a strong week, landing 5th overall and 10th overall in FFA market, and his heifer topped it off as Champion FFA Market Heifer. Always proud of the kids and the work they put in. Even better getting to catch up with all our show friends — that’s what makes these shows worth it.

Anna ended up coming home Thursday night and rode over to Spokane with me on Friday. Then Saturday, Anna and I were right back at it — getting mares in, hauling them out with the studs, fixing fence, and keeping things moving.

Saturday kept things busy — JC had a 5-header calf roping, good job JC winning the 2nd round and making it back to Sunday. Then still made it to prom with Kaine that night. Jaxsen and Hailey went out as well, just skipped the prom part.

Back home, it’s been full speed as usual. Dad was working in Kahlotus and then jumped right into hauling Jaxsen around once that wrapped up. Jaxsen has been holding down most of the horse chores, while Mom and I have been busy with the colts.

Annie and Twiggs are doing great — getting turned out during the day and enjoying a little sunshine. Ben, Kaine, and Kicker have been handling cow chores, with Ben fixing circles and chasing water to keep everything running smooth.

We’ve had a few more foals hit the ground this past week, and Dad delivered a few bulls as well — just another week of juggling it all.

Wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

➡️ On to Ellensburg.
