We’re headed to the Desert Storm Cattle Show in Hermiston this weekend and hope to see a lot of you there on Saturday! Looking forward to a good show, good cattle, and catching up with friends along the way.
To everyone else spending the weekend branding, rodeoing, boating, hauling, irrigating, relaxing, or just trying to keep up with ranch life — stay safe and enjoy the weekend.
Summer weekends are starting to fill up fast around here
Spring ranch life keeps rolling around here. We’re getting ready to head to the Desert Storm, a cattle show in Hermiston, this weekend. We still need to get the cows worked. The last few bulls are waiting on buyers to be ready. We do have one Hereford bull left if anyone is looking for a bull.
Last week was also FFA State Convention, and we’re pretty proud of our crew. Jaxsen competed on the Freshman Food Processing and Meats Evaluation teams, where they placed 1st and 4th in the state. Kade was the State Winner in Cooperative Quiz and Interview and earned an $800 scholarship, and Kaine received his State Degree. A lot of hard work went into those accomplishments, and it’s fun seeing it pay off.
Kaine also gave his senior presentation this week. Him, Cyson, and Maxx painted the lines for CBJLS and did a great job presenting their project. All three boys are also in Mr. Dansie’s CDL class, and it meant a lot that he came down to watch them give their presentation.
Toni and Dad also made a trip to pick up mares from Allie’s, and we got some exciting news while they were there — both Sally and Twist are confirmed in foal!
Sally is bred to Heracles, a 2022 AQHA palomino stallion owned by Jake Bennett. He’s sired by leading barrel racing sire Epic Leader and out of UX Kimmitted ta Fame. Standing in Soap Lake, Washington, Heracles is being campaigned as a top-tier barrel prospect, and we’re excited to see what that cross brings.
It’s always fun looking ahead to next year’s foals while juggling everything else ranch life throws at us
Colt Sire: KT Gunpowder N Lead (“Gunner”) Dam: JWB Call Me Lura DOB: 3/30/26 Color: Buckskin (possibly homozygous roan) Price: $6,000
There’s just something about a buckskin colt with shape, presence, and cow horse blood that gets people’s attention — and KT Gold N Ammo checks every box. 🔥
This sharp-made colt is built right with bone, balance, and the kind of natural look we love to see early on. Add in the possibility of roaning out, and he’s the kind that’s hard to overlook in the pasture.
His dam, JWB Call Me Lura, is a big, rugged bay roan mare with true ranch horse substance. Her pedigree ties together proven names like Jackie Bee, San Peppy, Biankus, Go Man Go, Dandy Derby, and Fritz Command — generations known for durability, versatility, speed, and cow sense.
On the top side, KT Gunpowder N Lead (“Gunner”) continues to stamp his foals with size, strong hips, good minds, and trainability. Gunner is by Cue Bars Laddie and out of our proven mare “Pistol,” a dependable ranch and rope horse featured in the NFQHA rule book and magazine.
This colt has the kind of pedigree and disposition that gives him the potential to go just about any direction — ranch, rope horse, cow horse, or all-around using horse. The kind you can raise up, rely on, and enjoy for years to come.
Some stallions leave a mark on your program. Some leave a mark on your family. Double did both.
“Double” was the kind of horse that made life easy. He had the ability, the mind, and the kind of disposition that made everyone love him. Professionally trained and used on the ranch, Double showed all the cow and athletic ability you could ask for — but rode around with the easy, quiet feel of a gelding.
We were incredibly fortunate to purchase him from Vance and Carol Burke from the Soap Lake area, and he became a huge part of our breeding program for years.
Double consistently stamped his foals: ✔ Big hip ✔ Natural athletic ability ✔ Instant speed when needed ✔ Easy to start ✔ Cowy and trainable minds
His foals have gone on to ranch homes, roping homes, barrel racing homes, and performance programs. Around our place, we still use several of his daughters on the ranch today, and they continue to prove exactly why we thought so highly of him.
More than anything though, Double passed down his personality. He was kind, easy to get along with, and the type of horse people naturally gravitated toward. Once you had a “Double baby,” it usually meant you wanted another one.
We had to say goodbye to Double in June of 2023 due to failing health, and there’s no doubt he left a hole around here. But we still see pieces of him every day in his offspring, and that legacy continues to carry on through the horses he left behind.
Filly • 6 Panel N/N Sire: KT King of Blue Dam: KT Gun in a Million “Mil” DOB: 4/29/24 Color: Black (Color Tested a/a, E/E) 💰 $6,000
Sharp, black, classy, and bred to perform — KT Wright on Astra is the kind of filly that’s hard to overlook. She’s balanced, athletic, and carries herself with the kind of presence we love to see in a young prospect.
Astra combines proven cow horse, cutting, and ranch versatility bloodlines with the kind of disposition that makes training enjoyable. She’s smart, willing, and was an absolute breeze to halter break — always a good sign for the future.
Her dam, KT Gun in a Million (“Mil”), is a standout brindle roan mare with an exceptional pedigree. Mil is by KT Gunpowder N Lead (“Gunner”), a son of the accomplished Cue Bars Laddie — AQHA Open All-Around Trophy winner and CCHA Hall of Fame horse known for excelling in reining, cowhorse, and roping. Gunner’s dam, “Pistol,” is a proven NFQHA mare and dependable ranch and rope horse known for passing along versatility, athleticism, and great minds.
On the maternal side, Astra traces back to Wright On Sugarnic (“Stinger”), winner of the Pro Division of the Cascade Cutters Futurity and an own daughter of Lenas Wright On. This pedigree is packed with influential names including Smart Little Mesa, Just Plain Colonel, Doc O’Lena, Peppy San, and Docs Jack Frost.
Her sire, KT King of Blue, adds even more proven cowhorse and cutting influence. He is by Shining Blue DR (“Bish”), a son of Autumnator — by the legendary Smart Little Lena ($743,275 NCHA earnings; Triple Crown Open Champion) and out of Autumn Boon, producer of over $1 million in offspring earnings.
Astra offers: ✔ Elite cowhorse & cutting pedigree ✔ Black color with tested genetics ✔ Trainable, willing disposition ✔ Athletic build & balance ✔ Versatility for ranch, arena, or performance future
This filly has all the pieces to make someone an exceptional partner down the road.
If you like pretty buckskins with brains, pedigree, and versatility built in — KT The Mighty Gun deserves a look.
This colt is the kind we love raising at KT Ranch: good minded, athletic, balanced, and bred to go in just about any direction. Whether you want a ranch horse, rope prospect, reiner, or all-around using horse, this colt has the genetics and disposition to get there.
His sire, KT Gunpowder N Lead “Gunner,” is a son of the accomplished Cue Bars Laddie — an AQHA Open All-Around Trophy winner and CCHA Hall of Fame horse that proved himself in reining, cow horse, and roping events. Gunner consistently passes on shape, bone, athleticism, and quiet minds.
On the bottom side, Breezy brings a pedigree packed with proven performance and trainability. Her sire, The Mighty Oak, earned multiple reining and all-around accolades including World Show qualifications in heading, while Breezy’s dam also qualified for the Junior Reining World Show and earned a Performance ROM. Breezy herself is a kind, willing mare with the type of disposition we value highly in our program.
KT The Mighty Gun combines: ✔ Fancy buckskin color ✔ Proven all-around performance pedigree ✔ Athletic ability & versatility ✔ Quiet, trainable disposition ✔ Ranch, rope, reining, or family horse potential
This colt has the look, the mind, and the bloodlines to make someone an outstanding partner down the road.
This week and last: ➡️ Hauled Reba, her filly, and MB up to Allie’s, but not in one trip and Allie came down and ultrasounded some mars and bred a mare to Classic Metal. ➡️ Got Sally hauled up to Morgan’s to be bred to Hercales, and she was in heat so came back home. ➡️ Been shuffling mares back and forth to breed to our own studs ➡️ STILL waiting on a few mares to foal
At this point, the pickup barely gets shut off before someone says: “Hey… can you hook onto the trailer real quick?”
It’s been a busy — and pretty exciting — week around here.
The boys are headed off to the FFA State Convention! Kaine will be receiving his State Farmer degree, which is a huge accomplishment and something he’s worked hard for over the years. Kade and Jaxsen will both be competing, and we’re excited to watch them represent. Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.(These are last year pics)
Meanwhile, Anna is deep into finals week at college and will be home soon. We can’t wait to have the whole crew back together again — especially heading into the busy summer season.
Last weekend we had a great time at the Jr. Angus Field Day and the kids had a really successful show: 🏆 Champion Cow/Calf Pair 🏆 Reserve Champion Bull 🏆 Reserve Champion Bred & Owned Heifer 🏆 Reserve Champion Evergreen Heifer 🏆 Anna also earned Reserve Champion Showman
And a reminder to those showing Evergreen heifers — they PAY OUT! Kaine came home with $300, which makes those banners even sweeter.
On the horse side, there’s lots happening too. Kade has been getting rides on Rip, our really nice 2-year-old bay gelding that’s offered for sale, and he’s also been legging up Gucci. It’s fun watching these young horses continue to come along.
Breeding season is rolling right along: ✨ Reba headed up to be AI’d to Brother Jackson ✨ Sally was bred to Jake Bennett’s barrel stud, Hercales ✨ And now we’re impatiently waiting on Nutter Butter to have our foal by John Holloway’s stud, PD
And probably the biggest horse news around here lately — we added a new stallion to the program last week: Classic Metal. We are SUPER excited about this stud and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him at KT Ranch.
Between FFA, finals, cattle shows, breeding season, riding colts, and everyday ranch life… there’s never a dull moment around here.
Some fillies just have that look from day one — color, shape, presence, and a pedigree stacked with talent. “Bean” is one of those fillies.
Sired by KT HotTimein Cowtown, “Tank,” this filly carries elite reining and cow horse bloodlines top and bottom. Tank is by KR Gun Powder, the 2016 APHA Senior Reining World Champion and NRHA money earner, and a son of the legendary Colonels Smoking Gun (“Gunner”). On the bottom side, Tank is out of KT Cow Cuttin Hottie, by Cow Cuttin Colonel, bringing proven cow horse ability, athleticism, and trainability into the mix.
Her dam, “Mocha,” is the kind of mare every breeding program needs more of — consistent, dependable, and proven to raise good-minded, usable horses with substance and athletic ability. Her pedigree ties together powerhouse names like Smart Little Lena, Docs Oak, Jackie Bee, Tuff Continental, Wimpy, and Skipper W. Even better? Her daughter “Jojo” has become Anna’s go-to riding horse, and we think that says a lot about the kind of horses Mocha produces.
