It was nice to be home for a week!

Monday we were all dragging. Poor Jaxsen and Kade had to go to school, as a freshman and 7th grader. Anna and Kaine got to sleep in one more day. Toni had a day packed with meetings, she did not even get lunch until late afternoon, and if you have been with Toni, she needs to eat at noon. So I am sure she was hangry. Dad went to Reardan to get grain. The men got home and worked on circles, then brought the battleship down to unload the grain, but they were going to actually unload it on Tuesday when it is cooler.  We did chores, loved on our horses that missed us the week before and made sure they all looked ok. We spent time with them on Sunday as well, but when they feel neglected they are like crazy stalkers.

Tuesday Ben left at 3 am to go and start harvesting in Walla Walla. All of the kids went to school on Tuesday. Football practice ran long, then the boys had to do chores and work on their steers, so it was a long day for them. Toni had a big hearing on Tuesday.  Toni and I put up some poles that were knocked down. Played with the foals, etc. We were also biding on a steer in Ohio on SC Online auctions. We got him, now we are trying to get a few more there to make the hauling cheaper.

More of the same on Wednesday, school, football practice, steers, etc. We did get our mare from Montana on Wednesday, Opal is a Ima Sun ofa Gun daughter with Poco Bueno and San Peppy on the bottom. She is a really sweet mare, she is gray but was born grullo. Now we are arguing about who to breed her too. We also got our Gen mare back from John Gray who had let us breed her to the Gunner son he bought from us, who was out of Big Mama. We are stoked to see what that foal looks like. Mom went and stayed with grandma on Wednesday, and then her and dad stopped and got Mei Lings on the way home, but didn’t share it with us.

We had some rain on Thursday, not a lot. Toni ran Cinder and 2 show heifers into the Othello vet, Sheena to see if they were pregnant.  There was a vet student named Randa that also got to check. The 7 heifer slammed her foot onto Toni’s foot, so Toni wasn’t in a good mood. But 7 was pregnant, so at least she is going to give back to the ranch. Cinder was pregnant so she gets to go to her new home. We also had a guy come out to look at our freezer. It was low on freon, so it is running great again. Toni stayed with grandma on Thursday night. She was still catching up on meetings from being gone to the fair, so she was late getting over. I did our chores, boys did their chores when they got home from practice.

Friday the boys had a game in Othello and it was Marlo’s birthday, so I brought home sandwiches and crumble cookies to take to the game with us. Toni and Marlo did chores while I unloaded Costco, then we all went to the game. The boys played really well, it was a great game. It is awesome to have both Kaine and Kade playing varsity. Kade is just on special teams, but they are still on the same field. They all played great.

On Saturday Anna clipped some steers for people. The boys were sore from their football game, so they washed their steers and rested some, then Kade went out to rope. I went out and moved the cows from circle 5 to circle 4 and took pictures. Anna worked on her Evergreen entries when she was done clipping. Ben worked on circles and then fixed the Beast blower. Toni worked on her billing and still had meetings most of the day. I went and stayed with Grandma Saturday night. So Toni did chores and put in a new post.

Sunday morning Toni and I took Willie to his new home, it was just a few miles away and they had a old two horse straight load, so we felt it was easier to just haul a yearling colt there then to load him. Then we went to CBJLS to set up. When we got back Kaine and Kade put out big bales for us with the horses. Anna went to Warden after to hang out with Lane. Kaine went and stayed with his friend Maxx after they got done doing chores. Kade continued to work on his roping.

It was nice to be home for a week! We don’t get that luxury for the next 2 weeks. So this is another reminder- if you want to support livestock kids, there is no better place to do it than the fair! If you can’t afford a whole animal, you can do add- ons or donate to the North Franklin Livestock Booster. https://northfranklinlivestockbooster.com/
