Finally Friday: Mares, Miles & Mayhem

This week and last:
➡️ Hauled Reba, her filly, and MB up to Allie’s, but not in one trip and Allie came down and ultrasounded some mars and bred a mare to Classic Metal.
➡️ Got Sally hauled up to Morgan’s to be bred to Hercales, and she was in heat so came back home.
➡️ Been shuffling mares back and forth to breed to our own studs
➡️ STILL waiting on a few mares to foal

At this point, the pickup barely gets shut off before someone says:
“Hey… can you hook onto the trailer real quick?”

Thursday Thoughts

It’s been a busy — and pretty exciting — week around here.

The boys are headed off to the FFA State Convention! Kaine will be receiving his State Farmer degree, which is a huge accomplishment and something he’s worked hard for over the years. Kade and Jaxsen will both be competing, and we’re excited to watch them represent. Proud doesn’t even begin to cover it.(These are last year pics)

Meanwhile, Anna is deep into finals week at college and will be home soon. We can’t wait to have the whole crew back together again — especially heading into the busy summer season.

Last weekend we had a great time at the Jr. Angus Field Day and the kids had a really successful show:
🏆 Champion Cow/Calf Pair
🏆 Reserve Champion Bull
🏆 Reserve Champion Bred & Owned Heifer
🏆 Reserve Champion Evergreen Heifer
🏆 Anna also earned Reserve Champion Showman

And a reminder to those showing Evergreen heifers — they PAY OUT! Kaine came home with $300, which makes those banners even sweeter.

On the horse side, there’s lots happening too. Kade has been getting rides on Rip, our really nice 2-year-old bay gelding that’s offered for sale, and he’s also been legging up Gucci. It’s fun watching these young horses continue to come along.

Breeding season is rolling right along:
✨ Reba headed up to be AI’d to Brother Jackson
✨ Sally was bred to Jake Bennett’s barrel stud, Hercales
✨ And now we’re impatiently waiting on Nutter Butter to have our foal by John Holloway’s stud, PD

And probably the biggest horse news around here lately — we added a new stallion to the program last week: Classic Metal. We are SUPER excited about this stud and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him at KT Ranch.

Between FFA, finals, cattle shows, breeding season, riding colts, and everyday ranch life… there’s never a dull moment around here.

Feature Foal Wednesday: KT Blonde Bean Queen

Palomino Filly
Sire: KT HotTimein Cowtown, “Tank”
Dam: KT Mocha Fudsey Lena, “Mocha”
DOB: 3/23/26
Color: Palomino
Price: $6,000

Some fillies just have that look from day one — color, shape, presence, and a pedigree stacked with talent. “Bean” is one of those fillies.

Sired by KT HotTimein Cowtown, “Tank,” this filly carries elite reining and cow horse bloodlines top and bottom. Tank is by KR Gun Powder, the 2016 APHA Senior Reining World Champion and NRHA money earner, and a son of the legendary Colonels Smoking Gun (“Gunner”). On the bottom side, Tank is out of KT Cow Cuttin Hottie, by Cow Cuttin Colonel, bringing proven cow horse ability, athleticism, and trainability into the mix.

Her dam, “Mocha,” is the kind of mare every breeding program needs more of — consistent, dependable, and proven to raise good-minded, usable horses with substance and athletic ability. Her pedigree ties together powerhouse names like Smart Little Lena, Docs Oak, Jackie Bee, Tuff Continental, Wimpy, and Skipper W. Even better? Her daughter “Jojo” has become Anna’s go-to riding horse, and we think that says a lot about the kind of horses Mocha produces.

Bean combines:
✔ Proven performance pedigree
✔ Eye-catching palomino color
✔ Shape, balance & athletic ability
✔ Trainable, willing disposition
✔ Real-world ranch and performance potential

This is the kind of filly that fits a lot of programs and a lot of dreams. The only problem? The longer she stays here… the harder she is to sell.

Get her now before we decide she’s staying at KT Ranch.

Finally Friday

If you’re waiting for things to slow down… this probably isn’t your kind of life

We wrapped up a great week at the Spokane Jr Show and now we’re rolling right into another one — headed to Ellensburg for the Jr Angus show this weekend. We’ve still got a handful of mares left to foal, so the mom and the men are holding down the fort while we’re gone.

Thursday Thoughts

Wrapped up a great week at the Spokane Jr Show and now we’re loading up and heading to Ellensburg for another Jr Angus show this weekend — no slowing down around here.

The Spokane Jr Show was a good one. Kade had a strong week, landing 5th overall and 10th overall in FFA market, and his heifer topped it off as Champion FFA Market Heifer. Always proud of the kids and the work they put in. Even better getting to catch up with all our show friends — that’s what makes these shows worth it.

Anna ended up coming home Thursday night and rode over to Spokane with me on Friday. Then Saturday, Anna and I were right back at it — getting mares in, hauling them out with the studs, fixing fence, and keeping things moving.

Saturday kept things busy — JC had a 5-header calf roping, good job JC winning the 2nd round and making it back to Sunday. Then still made it to prom with Kaine that night. Jaxsen and Hailey went out as well, just skipped the prom part.

Back home, it’s been full speed as usual. Dad was working in Kahlotus and then jumped right into hauling Jaxsen around once that wrapped up. Jaxsen has been holding down most of the horse chores, while Mom and I have been busy with the colts.

Annie and Twiggs are doing great — getting turned out during the day and enjoying a little sunshine. Ben, Kaine, and Kicker have been handling cow chores, with Ben fixing circles and chasing water to keep everything running smooth.

We’ve had a few more foals hit the ground this past week, and Dad delivered a few bulls as well — just another week of juggling it all.

Wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

➡️ On to Ellensburg.
