Meet the Mares: Lona

KT Copper Doc Lona, “Lona,” is a mare that we have raised, mom, Pam, got Lona’s grandma, Sheba, for her 16th birthday present. Lona’s mom, Chicken, was Sheba’s first foal and Lona is Chicken’s only filly. So of course, Lona is mom’s favorite and her horse. Lona is out of Docs Sizzle Bar and Copper War Chic, Chicken. Chicken was a great cow horse and show horse that we had for many years. We did not start breeding Chicken until she was in her 20s, so we only got three foals out of her, one filly and two colts. We broke Lona to ride and have used her as a broodmare. Lona’s grandsire was Willie War Chic, ROM Race ~ SI 95. She is a granddaughter of Snipper Reed and Pine Doc Smith. Her pedigree is full of performance, cow, show and running horses. This is a big built dun mare that really throws nice foals. Remember Smash is a AAA money earner that was raced very little, several of his foals went to CA to be money earners in barrel racing. His sire is Easily Smashed who was an AQHA race Champion, he had 14 wins and had earnings in excess of $320,000. He had an S.I. of 99 and his foals have earnings of over $9 million. Meet the Mares: Cleo

KT Copper Queen Cleo is one of our favorite mares, she is out of our first foal crop by Docs Sizzle Bar. Her dam was an awesome all-around horse, Copper Queen Robin. Dad roped off of Robin, she was used as a ranch horse, Toni barrel raced off of her and shoed her 4H. She was not used as a brood mare until she was in her 20s. Robin was one of our all-time favorite mares. Cleo bowed her tendon as a weanling, but we were able to put some rides on her as a 2 year old. She has been a super horse to have around, and has really produced some cow eating foals. Blue Eyed Reflection has a pedigree that speaks for itself, daughter of Colonels Reflection, a point earning stallion and son of Colonel Freckles. She is out of Reba Lynx, who was a daughter of Docs Lynx with One Gun on the bottom side. She is a blue eyed mare with lots of chrome. Her full brother has his ROM and her sister is a barrel horse. Meet the Mares: Pistol

Charros Dandy Miss, “Pistol,” is a buckskin mare that is homozygous for the black mane and tail gene. She has been shown all over since we purchased her as a weanling. She has been shown NFQHA, both in hand trail as a yearling and two year old and in regular classes. She has been pictured on the NFQHA rule book and in the NFQHA journal. We have had some really nice foals out of this mare. She is a good cow horse and rope horse. See additional pictures of Pisol on the Working Ranch. 80% NFQHA. Pistol is by Gold Country Charro who was shown halter in 1998 and 1999. He is a grandson of Imperial One, Docs Jack Frost and more. On the bottom side Pistol is a granddaughter of Dandy Derby. Continental Lady Bug is a big boned Continental Cad daughter going back to Mr Blackburn on the bottom. She is 81% NFQHA and is a mare that has been a great color producer. She has an outstanding disposition, if she sees you outside she comes running. Anna and mom argue about whose horse she is. Mom’s argument is that she is her mare because mom does not ride and Lady Bug is not broke to ride, so they are perfect for each other.
