We had a fun-filled week with Dad’s cousins from California, Linda and Patricia! Dad took them touring around the Columbia Basin, including a trip up to St. John to look through old pictures and revisit some memories. They also stopped at Sonny’s in Washtucna for lunch—or dinner, depending on how long the visiting lasted!
They made it to one of Jaxsen’s football games, although being stuck in Ritzville while the road was closed nearly put a wrench in those plans. Connell came away with the win! With a big lead, JV went in, so they didn’t get to see Jax play much, but we’ll take the win. It was also a VERY windy night, so I passed on going. I support football. I’m just less enthusiastic about being sandblasted while watching it.

Dad also took them to Palouse Falls. Their last visit was in the spring, and Patricia wanted to see what it looked like in the fall. It was great having them here and getting some family time in between all the ranch projects.
Meanwhile, we started halter breaking foals and are already on our second group this week. We weaned more foals and fixed some fence, because apparently the fence did not get the memo that our schedule was full. The puppy got his first experience helping with fence repairs, and I think he had a pretty good time. His definition of “helping” may differ from ours, but enthusiasm counts.

Kade took my Gucci girl roping with Mr. Dansie, and she did amazing! Pretty proud of that girl—and pretty pleased to see her putting those skills to work.

We also had our September/October birthday party, but we’ll need another round because Terry and Erina were at a wedding and couldn’t make it. Having to celebrate again is a burden we’re willing to bear. Especially if there’s cake.

Today, Toni and Kade took a group of foals to the vet to get their travel papers. A reminder for buyers: if your foal needs travel papers, it is your responsibility to let us know ahead of time so we can get the vet visit arranged. A little advance notice helps keep pickup day running smoothly!

And we got our Seldom Rest heifer! We are super excited about her and can’t wait to see what’s ahead.
Family visits, football, foals, fence, birthdays, and a new heifer. Just another quiet week around here!
