Harley has been used for ranch work, been roped off of, used to doctor calves, and the kids can rider her too! This mare’s pedigree is full of cutting/performance horses. Thankful
We actually had a semi relaxing weekend; it was Toni and Anna’s birthdays so we spent a little time partying. Anna had some friends over Friday night, Toni went to Tri Cities to have lunch with some friends on Saturday, and we had a family party on Sunday. Uncle Skip was able to come from St. John and spend the day with us for the party. Skip lives at the Pierson Homestead in St. John, WA.
We had a great week halter breaking with four phenomenal foals. Pecan, Handy, Uptown, and Smashed were all joys. These foals would meet us at the gate in the first week which is rare. Clearly we think all of our foals are great, but these made the week go by quickly. The boys were able to help with the halter breaking process which makes chores easier and we actually get done in the light!
Friday Pecan was scheduled to go to her new home in OR. She is one of the two AQHA Youth Development foals. Grace and her family came and we had a great visit. Grace generously made us a pecan pie AND made the pie plate that the pie was in. The pie plate was painted with a picture of Pecan the horse with Grace’s name and KT Ranch. We loved meeting Grace and her family and are very thankful that Pecan is going to such a wonderful home.

On Sunday, 38 Special (Handy), Uptown and Smashed Again went to their new homes. Handy and Uptown were sold to the same buyers. They were a pair. Two of our tallest foals this year and both so kind and gentle. Jim and Sandy came out quite a few times over the summer to see them, so Handy and Uptown were already familiar with Jim and Sandy. The worst part about these two foals was they would NOT load. I guess they didn’t want to leave us and head into the snowy north. We finally got them loaded. Whetzels, our good friends, had bought Smashed so they were there to pick her up as well. Smashed loaded great, took all of 5 seconds to load. So 4 more babies gone. We have Sheriff and Goldencents in now getting halter broke. They are doing well, but it is only day 2. Sheriff is going to our other AQHA Development Youth Jenny. Jenny is planning to come this weekend to get him.
Many people know that we have had Mil in training for the last several months. Katie Whetzel has done a fantastic job with Mil. Mil was ready to have a change so it was decided that she would go to Josh and Crystal Hoelscher of Sizzlin Quarter Horses. We are very thankful for all of the work that Katie has put into getting Mil were she is. Katie has soft hands and the patience of a saint, so the perfect trainer for young horses. Josh and Crystal plan to update FB frequently with pics of Mil. Of course the current weather, rain, drizzle, and dark clouds, does really allow for quality pictures.
Thankful. That is the word that we have used as we approach Thanksgiving. It really encompasses our overall thinking here. We are thankful for our friends, family, and buyers. We love raising livestock and could not continue if we didn’t have people that believed in our ranch and our mission- to provide good quality cow horses that can really excel in any arena. Thank you.

Smart Like Lena is a son of Smart Little Lena and has lifetime earnings of over $89,000.00 a ROM in cutting, and has sired offspring earning over $100,000 in NCHA money. City Smarts is by An Educated Guess, 385 reining points, and the highest point earning son of Smart Chic Olena. City has a full brother that is a reiner and priced at $13,000. Halter Breaking
Kaine and Kade helped us with the foals last night and worked on Blurose.
Last Weekend
Since we all work off of the ranch as well as on it, our weekends are normally jam-packed with fun. So per the norm, we have more scheduled than hours in the day. Toni and I headed to a function on Saturday, Ben was working, Kicker took Kade to him football game, and Coco and Anna took Kaine to his football game. Ben got off of work early, so he decided to wean the bull calves. So as of Saturday night, everything went perfect and according to plan.
Sunday morning I am working on the website, Toni is getting everything ready at her house for Kade’s birthday party, and Kaine comes in to tell me that the gate was knocked down and the bull calves are gone. So I send out a group text to Ben, Toni, and Kicker telling them that the bull calves are missing, then Kaine and I and set out in the blazer looking for the calves, we of course head straight towards their moms. Our circles are numbered, the one behind my house is 4, next is 5, then 6, 7, and 8. The moms to the calves are in 6. As we are driving I see it looks like there are some in 4, some in 5, some in 6, and some in 7.
So we start out around 7 to push the calves there back to 6, and proceed to run over a piece of pipe and get a flat tire. We then walk the rest of the way to mom and dads and get the 4 wheelers and start back out. Kicker calls to see where we are at, then comes down to help. We end up getting all of the cows in to sort the bull calves off, so we decide, hey, everything is in, we might as well wean them all.
After we get them all in we take a break for Kade’s birthday party. Toni made a fantastic lasagna. After the party Toni, Kicker, and I head back down to sort calves. Now, we have calves in every nook and cranny, since we were not quite ready to wean yet, and need to do some fence repair in some pens. We also have show steers left taking up space. Bottom line is, that if anyone wants to buy some beef, we have some available! 2 steers fat and ready to go.
After all of that Toni, Coco, and I got to go and halter Bliss, Fooler and Quinn and start halter breaking them. The fun (really the work) never ends here. Luckily we try to see the fun in it.
Hail and Grace
