Some stallions leave a mark on your program.
Some leave a mark on your family.
Double did both.
“Double” was the kind of horse that made life easy. He had the ability, the mind, and the kind of disposition that made everyone love him. Professionally trained and used on the ranch, Double showed all the cow and athletic ability you could ask for — but rode around with the easy, quiet feel of a gelding.
We were incredibly fortunate to purchase him from Vance and Carol Burke from the Soap Lake area, and he became a huge part of our breeding program for years.
Double consistently stamped his foals:
✔ Big hip
✔ Natural athletic ability
✔ Instant speed when needed
✔ Easy to start
✔ Cowy and trainable minds
His foals have gone on to ranch homes, roping homes, barrel racing homes, and performance programs. Around our place, we still use several of his daughters on the ranch today, and they continue to prove exactly why we thought so highly of him.
More than anything though, Double passed down his personality. He was kind, easy to get along with, and the type of horse people naturally gravitated toward. Once you had a “Double baby,” it usually meant you wanted another one.
We had to say goodbye to Double in June of 2023 due to failing health, and there’s no doubt he left a hole around here. But we still see pieces of him every day in his offspring, and that legacy continues to carry on through the horses he left behind.
The good ones never really leave us.
