What a week it was around here — and by “around here” I mean the Othello Fair, a football field, the desert, and somehow also Washington DC.
Kade wrapped up his steer show career in style — he and his steer, White Mike, were Grand Champion Market and Grand Champion Fitting and Showing, and Kade topped it off winning FFA II in Round Robin. Anna and Tommy Jo drove down to cheer Kade on for Market Wednesday — nice to have a fan section that isn’t just parents.
Jaxsen and Blackie did great as well. They placed 4th in market and picked up a blue in showmanship. Two boys, two steers, zero chill this week.
And a big thank you to Simplot and K&N Electric for buying the boys’ steers — support like that doesn’t go unnoticed.
Emma is still using Reina as her backup Wrangler Girl and parade horse. Reina is doing a great job being a parade mount.
I missed most of the fair myself because I was in DC for the Family Farm Alliance Fly-In — first time there, and I can confirm the Nationals play baseball exactly like you’d expect a team in a city full of politicians to play baseball. Met a lot of great people and had a great time. Thanks Roger and Norm for inviting me to the game.
Jaxsen also had a football game Friday night at Ki-Be — I heard Connell came out with the win and Jaxsen and the rest of the Connell Team played a great game.
Sunday we hauled some mares out to the desert and got the first foals haltered. Ben spent the week on circles and corn harvest, trying to squeeze the last month out of watering before it squeezes back. We also got the last loads of grass straw in and Ben and Kicker unloaded that. And the first of Anna’s show steers shipped out Sunday.
Busy week, good week. See you next Thursday, if I survive to it.
