Monday was still hot, hot, hot. Anna was working on getting some show steers ready for a sale, so she caught them. If anyone is looking for 2025 nice market show calves, Anna will have some in the Evergreen Sale in October. These calves will be ready and she will have footnotes if they will work for a beginner. She really puts the time in and these calves will be nice. Kade rode Stormy. All four kids caught their steers and worked on them. Toni took the kids to a 4H meeting to get ready for Benton Franklin Fair. They didn’t take steers so just stayed for the meeting and pizza dinner. I went out and got some pictures of the bred heifers for a guy in CA.
On Tuesday Kade and Toni went to Prosser and picked up Glo. Dad, Skip and Jaxsen went to Othello for sprayer parts, but then had to go to Pasco. Anna and mom went to Pasco to pick up meat, however, they were supposed to go to Othello, so they went back to Othello. Basically, everyone passed each other on the highway and it was a comedy of errors. Glo was doing great and Jordan had her started on the flag. Kaine and Anna also got pictures of the show steers for someone looking for a July steer. We did chores, it was still hot. Kade rode horses, Anna worked on her heifers and steers late to beat the heat. Kaine went and played volleyball with friends in town. He is using so much fuel I told him we are going to have to start splitting the fuel costs. Toni had a meeting in Pasco so she took off early.
Toni and the two boys hauled two loads of cows on Moses Lake on Wednesday for the auction. They loaded up the two trailers and Kade noticed my pickup Butte was leaking fluid, they tell me they think it is water, but more than condensation from the AC. So, they backed back up, unloaded the cows, unhooked Butte and hooked up Ol Red, then reloaded. They made it down alright and unloaded the cows. Toni took them to breakfast at Sharis, they were going to go to Bobs but the parking lot was full and they had two trailers, and Sharis has a bigger parking lot. But we like to go to Bobs when we can, they are a big-time support of the local kids selling their animals at fairs. Anna tied up all her animals while they were gone, the ones she is showing and the ones she is halter breaking. Kade rode all the horses at their house, which Friday doesn’t necessarily like him, but whatever. Emma came out and picked up Honey (she renamed her but we are ignoring that). We are super excited as Emma and Honey got along great and it is such a good fit. Emma has been borrowing Kevin to run flags and be a Wrangler girl and Kevin doesn’t necessarily love it. I mean, he is kind of getting old and likes being a back-up, extra horse. Toni stayed with grandma Wednesday night.
On Thursday Jim came out to look at his mare that is in with MC. When Toni and Jim were down looking at her I went out and pulled some hair from Stoker for Toni to send in. He was not super impressed. None of the foals have enjoyed having their hair pulled out but they are tolerant of us. Kade rode Joss out of the corral, into a water puddle, and just around with all of the stuff going on. She did fantastic. She is really level headed. She has great sized foot and bone, so although she isn’t tall, she is working well for Kade. Anna worked on the pen of calves she is halter breaking. Kaine chopped down some Russian Olive Trees. Toni and Jeannie got on the phone and decided there were some horses that they needed to look at for the Moses Lake sale (Central WA) that was going to happen on Saturday. Kade hauled over to Dansie’s to rope.
On Friday we got pictures of the kids and their CBJLS steers to send in. Kaine was messing around with his FFA jacket and not holding onto Velvet, so Velvie (yes he is a favorite) trotted away back to his pen. Kade rode Joss outside of the corral and through some over flowed water. She did really well. A bunch of the Sagebug foals were standing there watching him so I got a really cool picture of them. Toni and I hauled For, Stormy, and Crystal and Santana into Sage Hills Vet on Friday for various reasons. For was becoming a gelding and going home with his new owner Gina, which we are super excited about. Stormy has been intermittently lame, so she went for a lameness exam and some blood work. Santana went about his eye lavage, checkup, etc. We decided it was doing great but to leave the lavage in another week. Will Chappel, a great young horse starter came by, took the tour around the ranch, and looked at horses with Toni. I stayed with grandma on Friday night
Camas took DJ to a show in Selah on Saturday, Camas and DJ are one of our AQHA Youth Development pairs. DJ looked awesome, Camas is doing a great job with him. We had Sunshine an outside mare leaves Saturday morning. Kade went team roping. We had a guy come and get 4 fat steers, so we got them all in for him to look through. He was a super great guy, brought a friend with him. Toni and Kade were online bidding at Moses Lake to get a gelding for Jeannie, but ended up buying a mare for us. She is a cute little bay mare. When Ben got home Ben and Kaine changed the faucet in the kitchen and took out the dish washer to see if they could see what was wrong with it. Saturday night we had a BBQ for Lane and Anna since they were leaving for collage on Wednesday. It was a just an us BBQ.
On Sunday I went out and put mineral with the cows, fixed a little fence and took some pictures of some of the calves. Kade rode the new mare, “Boon,” around and decided to start roping off of her. Anna worked on her calves and Ben and Kaine filled up circle tracks. Toni and I got some pics of Blue Shooter and then Toni and Kade rook Joss and Shadie for a ride out in the alfalfa field. We also did normal chores, check everything, and had all-around Sunday funday.
